VMA - French Classic & Historic Championships

We’ve raced various of the bikes in the French VMA Championships since 2021. VMA was until 2025, a championship for classic production-based bikes, including a Vintage class, a post-classic (late 70s/ early 80s) class, and a Superbike class. Managed horribly, all the usual things dragged the championship down until it’s demise at the end of 2025. For 2026 the FFM have taken control directly. Suffice to say it’s having a bit of a makeover, although if social media is anything to go by, politics and self-interest from certain key parties seem to be omnipresent. We’ll see how it goes but we won’t be hanging around if it turns out to be the same shitshow with a new name.

Back in VMA our 1987 FZR1000 Genesis made just one outing in the Superbike category 5 years ago. These days it’s mainly used for shakedowns at new circuits, as the bike is so easy to use and requires minimal set-up.

On the Yamaha 5 valve front, we’ve also got a slightly later version, a 1990 FZR1000 Exup. It’s one of the beautiful early models (‘89 + ‘90 only) with 43mm forks. We nearly entered the EELC classic endurance series for this season, but work commitments mean it’ll wait a little while longer.

The Suzuki T250 and GT250 both competed in the Vintage category, initially in the 250cc class then in the amalgamated 350cc class. That’s been rebranded as Historic for 2026, with the 250cc bikes back in their own class, away from the 350cc (allegedly) Hondas and the laughably-non-classic carbon fibre-shod AJR TSS350 Bultaco replicas. Both Jack’s T250 and my GT250 might make some outings in the new 250cc version of the championship.

2026 also sees the return of the Supersport 400 category. We’ll both be looking to enter with our Suzuki RGV250’s.
